CHILD LABOUR INCREASES POVERTY


Over 420 children in 7 communities in Ondo State have been identified and withdrawn/prevented from cases of child labour through support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) with funding from the Netherlands Government.

Dr Agatha Kolawole, the National Coordinator of the Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains in Africa – ACCEL Africa Project and her team, accompanied by the implementing organisations in Ondo State KidsnTeensngo and Restoration Womanhood are currently visiting the communities to distribute educational materials to the beneficiaries who have already been given new uniforms, sandals and shoes to make learning conducive and life transforming.

Through the two prong strategy of quality education and poverty alleviation, the children and their parents are being empowered to end child labour in their lifetime because child labour only increases generational poverty.

International Day of Peace 2023: Family Planning as a Tool for Global Goals. The Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC), as a member of the Network of Peace and Security in the West African Region (NOPSWECO ONDO), collaborated with Marie Stopes International (MSI) to commemorate the International Day of Peace 2023 on September 21st. Coalition of Civil Society Takes a Stand Against Child Marriage in Nigeria On the 18th of September, 2023, a momentous event took place at the ROTDOW office in Nigeria. The Coalition of Civil Society on Ending Child Marriage convened, bringing together dedicated individuals and organizations from across the state to address the urgent issue of child marriage. Trinity and Oluwabukola, representing their organization (Kids and Teens Resource Centre), joined forces with fellow civil society organizations (CSOs) to work towards a common goal. The event commenced with Trinity leading the opening prayer, setting the tone for a productive and meaningful gathering. Mrs. Omolona, a key member of the coalition, expressed her gratitude to all those in attendance. She also extended a special thanks to Mr. Kolawole Olatosimi, the Co-chair of the coalition, for his unwavering support. Mr. Olatosimi took the floor and addressed the eager audience. K&TRC, First Electric Distributes Solar Lanterns To Forty-Five Students At Igbobini, Ondo State Kids & Teens Resource Centre in partnership with First Electric have distributed forty-five Solar Electric Lantern to students of Comprehensive High School Igbobini to aid their studies and improve their educational performances. Presenting the Solar Lantern to the beneficiaries, the Programme Manager of First Electric, Mr Oluwagbenga Alomaja, ably represented by Mr. Lucky Mapayi appreciated Kids & Teens Resource Centre for investing in the future of young people. He described First Electric as a leading company in the sustainable Energy Industry in Nigeria since May 2019 with a vision to drive wide adoption of sustainable energy solution across Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Alomaja solicited the support of the school to encourage the students to make judicious use of the lantern. Corps Peer Educator Trainers (C-PETS) Empowered in Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Training Series In an effort to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS and promote awareness among young individuals, the Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) recently organized a comprehensive HIV/AIDS training series for Corps members. The program, known as the Corps Peer Educators HIV/AIDS Training Series (C-PETS), aimed to equip Corps members with the necessary knowledge and skills to become effective peer educators. Led by the Executive Director, Mrs. Folashade Bamigboye, the training session took place on August 17th, 2023. During the training, Corps members were provided with a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of HIV/AIDS. This encompassed an in-depth exploration of the signs and symptoms associated with the virus. This will enable the participants to recognize potential indicators in individuals who may be affected. The training aimed to enhance their ability to identify and support those impacted by HIV/AIDS within their respective communities. A key focus of the training series was to emphasize the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention strategies. Corps members were educated on various risk reduction techniques.
