THE JOURNEY

SO FAR

Our History

The journey so far has been largely to the glory of God and a team of inspiring staff. There were times when resources were not available and we still had to run the office. What has kept Kids & Teens Resource Centre going in the last decade has been our passion for service to humanity that has been exhibited by the people working with the organization.

The level of commitment by the staff and volunteers has kept us going. The story started with about six persons volunteering at the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) office, they came up with the zeal to contribute to the society, we discovered that issues such as rape, child abuse, child rights act, gangsterism, substance abuse, HIV & AIDS etc, among young people were not being dealt with adequately in our immediate environment; we also saw the level of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) on the increase. We discovered some factors that were responsible for young people not achieving their full potentials and the need to curb these factors through the empowerment of young people with information and basic resources, So we came together as young people then to see what we could do to support the effort of the government and all other stakeholders as well as donor agencies and communities in ensuring that there is a secured future for young people. In doing this we aimed to empower other young people, so that they would also be able to contribute to the development of the community.

The journey started in 2002, December 12, in a small office in the PPFN building; with Nike Ahmed, Dotun Fadakini, Michael Adeyeye, Eyitayo Fabunmi, and a host of others who were also motivated to serve humanity including Adetoun Ogundare and Jumoke Ogundare. One person that was also with us is Late Kemi Falaye, who really tried financially for the organization when we started. Others are progressing in their different careers and they come in once in a while.
