Meet Joshua Adisa from LA primary school, Awule Oyotedo. Joshua is a 6yrs old physically challenged child that was enrolled into school by his Teacher, and this marked the beginning of the story of the helping hands that lifted Joshua and his family.
Joshua was discovered by a teacher who goes to the same Church as his mother. The teacher, Mrs. Chritianah Agbede, insisted that the boy be enrolled into school. She volunteered to put him on her back to school every day because he was unable to walk and was without walking aids. She did this for a while and later begged the older children in school to bring him. Unfortunately, the parents of the other kids were uncomfortable with this arrangement and Mrs. Agbede burdened with the child’s pain decided to reach out to Kids &Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) for assistance.
Our Executive Director, K&TRC, Mrs. Folashade Bamigboye spearheaded the efforts to get Joshua the needed assistance. Moved by his determination to attend school despite his condition, relentless work was put into raising funds to buy him a wheel chair.
“I put up the story on my status and Adebola Daniels contacted me that she didn’t have money to give right away but knows someone in Canada that could help. She connected me with the CEO of Jimmy Adekanle Foundation (JAF) and Mr Adekanle spoke with the head teacher immediately. He also wanted to speak with the boy’s mum to see how he could help the family further. I learnt the boy’s father abandoned him and the mum”, said Mrs. Bamigboye.
On Monday, 5th of July, 2021, after receiving a donation of 50,000 naira from JAF, representatives of Kids &Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) presented a wheel chair to Joshua Adisa.
Mrs. Bamigboye who said help came through Jimmy Adekanle Foundation (JAF) within such a short notice, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for making the dream of the young boy come true.
The occasion was filled with tears of joy from Joshua’s mother, teachers and Community members. The boy’s mother recounted her ordeal with Joshua’s condition and called for help saying feeding and caring for the children has not been easy on her as she resides with her old mother and takes up laundry job in the neighbourhood to survive the tide.
Since the event, many people have pledged commitment towards the lifting of Joshua’s family.
