K&TRC celebrates another Change Champion

We are glad to announce again, the selection of one of our own – Olaogun Michael Sunkanmi – to be among the 50 young Africans and Nigerian delegate that will be participating in “CANVASSITY” Democracy Fellowship Program for 2018.

The selection process was in two phases in which articles were written allowing young people share their thoughts on what they can do to solve problems in their country.

The contest was thrown open to young Africans after which the first 100 were selected and the 100 proceeded to contest again in which the final 50 were selected.

This is an opportunity to chart a new course for youth involvement in African democratic process and also become a fellow of the National Endowment for Democracy, Washington among many others.

Olaogun Micheal Sunkanmi is an Ekiti born Researcher, Writer, Public Speaker and Analyst with several years of experience in social development with voluntary service to reputable NGOs in Nigeria. He had his graduate and master degree from University of Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria during which he had the opportunity to serve in diverse leadership positions both within religious and circular system. He has co-authored academic journal with Prof. M.O Fajemidagba and Dr. Alex Akanmu as an undergraduate student, during his master’s studies, he researched around Nigerian Health System and the 2016 Budget Crises in Nigeria. In the quest to equip his humanitarian passion, he went on a certificate course at the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development, Lagos Nigeria with other short courses and certificates on Understanding Human Rights and Transparency and Good Governance. He has published a book titled “Believers and Temptations in the World” and several articles addressing diverse issues within Nigeria, Africa and Global context. He presently champions the campaign Responsible Leadership in Africa and Act Against Examination Malpractice through organizing of symposiums and social media engagement under SuccessFocus Africa Initiative where he’s a member. He is a mentor to several young people across Africa.

Michael Olasunkanmi Olaogun joined K&TRC about 3 years ago while studying for his Masters degree in the University of Ilorin in Kwara State at a time that the organisation could not afford to pay for Staff due to dwindling donor funding.

Michael has been very dedicated to the cause of the organisation since then. He learns fast and mixes up with people easily. He represents the organisation in a number of network meetings and comes to the head office in Akure often to learn and see for himself how the NGO is run after which he would say to our Executive Director *”Sir, I sincerely salute your commitment towards making humanity better. The last four days was never a waste of time. My brain is better equipped on how to drive my passion. Thank you very much for accepting me as part of your team.”*

His words made us know we are making a lot of impact in the lives of young people who will make waves around the world and contribute to the development of Nigeria now and in the future.

According to him, he fell in love with K&TRC just because his passion for human service got sparked up from the noble organization as the E.D would always tell him *”no amount of sacrifice is too much to fulfil your dream*”

With K&TRC’s support he attended a training in the Institute of Humanitarian Studies and Social Development IHSD Nigeria where the organizers gave a good feedback about his performance as “the most active student”.

Michael is a freelance writer, highly scholastic and pragmatic. He is respectful and constructive in his positions.

He came in contact with one of our partners about a year ago during one of his visits to the Head office and his articles have earned him golden opportunities thus far.

Wherever he goes, he remains a good ambassador of K&TRC on any platform; he has been a blessing to the organisation .

We are always willing to provide him with support because of his selfless service and commitment to K&TRC till date.

Congratulations to Michael and many other young people out there who are making us proud and giving us more reasons to invest in Kids and Teenagers all over Nigeria

Empowering Women in Rural Communities At the recent UN CSW68 event in New York, Mrs. Folashade Bamigboye, the Executive Director of Kids & Teens Resource Centre, shared an inspiring message about the crucial need for innovatively empowering women in rural areas. This important gathering brought together participants to discuss and address gender equality challenges affecting women in rural African communities. In her address, Mrs. Bamigboye highlighted the persistent gender inequality faced by rural women and girls. She emphasized the theme, “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.” Also, she stressed the need to overcome challenges and create opportunities for the empowerment of rural women and girls. She laid emphasis on key reasons why this empowerment is vital: 1. Economic Empowerment: Empowering women with access to financial resources, education, and training can help them start businesses, increase productivity, and gain independence, breaking the cycle of poverty. 2. World Health Day; My Health, My Right On April 7, 2024, the Oke Ilero/Ita Oniyan Community in Isinkan Akure hosted a successful World Health Day event organized by the Kids & Teens Resource Center (K&TRC) under the theme “My Health, My Right.” The event aimed to raise awareness about individual health rights and promote overall well-being. Egg Race To Wealth: Commemorating International Women’s Day  “The Egg Race To Wealth,” a remarkable event organized by Kids & Teens Resource Centre in Karomajiji, a community in F.C.T, to commemorate International Women’s Day. The event was celebrated women and also gave an opportunity to empower the participants through a unique competition and promises of support and training. The program commenced with an opening prayer led by Imam Abdullahi Dauda and Tina Sani, representing the Islamic and Christian faiths respectively.
