World Day Against Child Labor Marks a Call to Action

The World Day Against Child Labour event on June 12th, 2024, at the Professor Theodore Idibiye Francis Auditorium, FUTA South Gate, marked a pivotal moment in the global fight against child labor. The event aimed to raise awareness about the prevalent issue of child labor. It also seeks to get support for eradicating this harmful practice.

The day began with the arrival of stakeholders, collaborators, schools, and media teams.  These teams did set the stage for a unified effort to address child labor.

The event coordinator’s welcome address highlighted the significance of the day.  The need for collective action to combat child labor was also stated. This was followed by an opening prayer and the rendition of the national anthem, creating a solemn and purposeful atmosphere.

The keynote address, delivered by a prominent child rights advocate, provided an insightful overview of the current state of child labor worldwide. The speakers emphasized the critical role of education and Legal frameworks in eradicating child labor. The high demand for Community involvement in addressing the complex and far-reaching issues of child labor was also emphasized.

The World Day Against Child Labour event unites advocates, policymakers, and communities in their commitment to protect the rights and well-being of children globally.

World Diabetes Day serves as a global reminder of the growing impact of diabetes on millions of people worldwide. In Nigeria, diabetes continues to be a rising health concern, with many unaware of the importance of early detection, prevention, and management. Community Dialogue on Climate Action: A Step Towards Resilient Communities in Nigeria In an important initiative to combat the pressing challenges of climate change in Nigeria, Kids & Teens Resource Centre (K&TRC) hosted a pivotal Community Dialogue in Akure. This event was part of the “Empowering Civil Society to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria” project, also recognized as the #ClimateActionForStrongerNaija initiative, proudly sponsored by the Nigeria Youth Sustainable Development Goals Initiative (NGYouthSDGs) and supported by the German Embassy in Nigeria. The Community Dialogue convened a diverse group of stakeholders. Thus, creating a platform for vital discussions aimed at developing local strategies to address climate change. Among the participants were youth groups, people with disabilities, civil society organizations, religious and traditional leaders, and key government officials, all coming together to brainstorm actionable solutions to mitigate climate-related impacts.
