The International Day of Girls in ICT 2024 was commemorated with great enthusiasm at the Akure Tech Hub at Futa. Emerging Communities Africa (ECA) partnered with Kids&Teens, EnactUs, and AIESEC to celebrate the day under the theme of Leadership.

The event began with an opening message from Miss Success from ECA. Also she emphasized the significance of the day, highlighting its purpose to inspire and equip young girls to explore the world of technology.

The event featured insightful speeches from representatives of EnactUs and AIESEC, focusing on the essence of leadership. Ife-Oluwa David from EnactUs defined leadership as the ability to unite individuals to achieve a common goal. She also stated that leadership is not confined to holding a title. Rather, it revolves around the capacity to communicate effectively, persuade others, and inspire commitment to a shared vision. Furthermore, she outlined the qualities of a true leader. Here, she laid emphasis on vision, patience, and the ability to guide others on the right path.

Miss Toluwanimi from AIESEC reiterated this, emphasizing the importance of a leader’s ability to bring out the best in others. She further explained the virtues of patience, leading by example, and going above and beyond for one’s team.

Mr. Olajide from Kids&Teens encouraged the girls to step into leadership roles, particularly in the ICT sector, and urged them to break out of their shells and embrace leadership in various aspects of their lives.

The event concluded at 7:15 pm, leaving a lasting impact on the 20 girls who participated. They were charged to carry the mindset of leadership and empowerment forward, inspiring other girls to take on leadership roles in the ICT world.

The celebration at the Akure Tech Hub was a testament to the commitment to empowering girls in ICT It sure will foster a culture of leadership amongst girls.

The gathering brought together influential figures, including Dr. Ilawole, the Permanent Secretary; Pastor Akinshimola, Head of the Bureau of Public Procurement; and representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs), youth-led groups, and other stakeholders. Highlights from the International Day of Peace 2024   On September 20, 2024, communities worldwide came together to celebrate the International Day of Peace, a day dedicated to reinforcing the ideals of peace among nations and peoples. This year’s theme, “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” resonated deeply within our community as we actively promoted peace through advocacy, education, and direct engagement.
