National Tuberculosis Testing Week is an annual observance aimed at raising awareness about tuberculosis (TB). TB, is a contagious bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs but can also impact other parts of the body. This designated week; 13th-19th 0f August 2023, serves as an important reminder of the global efforts to combat TB. It highlights the significance of early detection, prevention, and treatment.
During this week, various activities are organized to promote TB education, screening, and testing. It emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis and encourages individuals, especially those at higher risk, to undergo TB testing. The week gives the opportunity for healthcare organizations, government agencies, and NGO’s to collaborate; enhancing their efforts in TB control.
In line with the objectives of National Tuberculosis Testing Week, there is a free screening activity currently underway in all LGAs in Akure. By participating in these screenings, individuals can take a proactive step towards safeguarding their health and contributing to the collective effort against TB.
