The second edition of Children Caravan was held on the 3rd to 5th of September 2019 as part of the organization’s effort to promote children’s rights to leisure and recreation enshrined in the Ondo state Child’s Right Law 2003.
Children Caravan 2019 was a 3-Day powerfully packed adventurous holiday program designed for children with disabilities and from rural and excluded communities between the ages of 10 and 15. The 2019 edition featured an array of events which included Life Building Skills, Sustainable Development Goals Education, Goal Setting, Maths Dance, Trip to the airport, Curators Hub for basic tech skills, FUTA Zoological Garden, social night, Liquid Soap making and Gele tying. All these events spanned over the three days.
The event included bringing down and returning various numbers of children from participating communities within Ondo State to be camped at Buddy Guest House, Ijapo Extension, Akure, Ondo – State. These communities are : Ilu Abo, Shasha, Ilado, Ibule Soro, Grace Gregs Compassionate Home and Mind Farm Initiative (Children with Disabilities)
Partners with Kids & Teens Resource Centre on the 2019 Children Caravan included : Ochikes Fast Food, Seed Dev, Gender Mobile Initiative, Grace Gregs Compassionate Home, Mind Farm Initiative, DUNIOUS Foundation, Global Help Trust Foundation and Curators Hub.
It was amazing to know that on the third day of the event, the children felt reluctant in returning back to their various communities, claiming they have learnt so much and had so much fun at the camp. The total number of children who participated in the Children Caravan 2019 were 51 children. Others included their Chaperons, Camp House Mistresses and Masters, Camp Commandant, Welfare Coordinators, Volunteers and Children Caravan Local Organizing Chairs.
