KIDS & ILLICIT VIDEOS

Parents and Guardians ought to be curious to know what kids do on internet enabled devices. Do we care to find out?

According to research, 95 per cent of 8 to 11 year olds had accessed the internet within a month, with almost all having accessed the internet at some point in their lives. Children in this age group use multiple internet-enabled devices; up to three for a 10 to 11 year old. And these are all sorts of devices, not just computers and laptops but also handheld mobile devices such as iPads, iPods and game consoles (Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portables, PlayStations).

(According to 2012 ABS data, 29 per cent of children aged five to 14 years of age have a mobile phone). While the majority in this age group accesses the internet at home, increasing numbers are using technology at school and at a friends’ house, away from direct parental supervision.

Ugh! Don’t be amazed. It would interest you to know that Pornographic videos are just a click away. Given the curiosity of the present 21st Century kids, surfing the internet has become as easy as possible.

What about social media?
Do you have time to check how much time they shuffle stuffs on the social media handles or what kind of materials they are exposed to on the platforms. We are very sure you worry about these things even when you know your kids need these devices as a means of communication, information and learning.

As a good parent or guardian, you must always guide teenagers and children as to what they are exposed to on the internet. If you can’t follow them around or place their activities under surveillance, which could be difficult, you can download an application on http://www.mindguard.com.ng that will help you oversee and guide their minds.  You can download the parent app on your phone and the digital coach on your kid’s phone so that you can protect him/her from the dangers associated with the internet without completely taking the phone away from them.

This application restricts access to pornographic websites, gives you the power to set limits on the time your child spends on social media, notifies you when he downloads a new app and lets you shut down his/her phone at bed time from your own phone!

What kids watch and read go a long way in affecting their lives They need support and education to develop the right skills needed to understand the risks and opportunities of the internet, so parents and guardians should talk to them and keep an eye on what they are exposed so that there future would be protected.
