Empowering Women: Eyelobirin of Ondo Central Senatorial Districts Take a Stand Against Gender-Based Violence
Kids and Teens Resource Centre, ROTDOW and The Eyelobirin of Ondo Central Senatorial Districts in Ondo State recently held a crucial meeting. Representatives from all six local governments in the district gathered to address the pressing issue of gender-based violence. In this article, we will delve into the details of the meeting, the VAPP LAW (Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law). This law takes a stand against Gender-Based-Violence (GBV). It also has a positive impact on the community as it empowers and equip them with knowledge. The interactive session began with a comprehensive explanation of the VAPP LAW, ensuring that all attendees understood its provisions and the penalties for offenses. The Eyelobirin were deeply convinced of the importance of this law and its potential to protect women from violence. Inspired by the meeting, Chief Mrs. Stella Olufunke Fadahunsi, the head of Eyelobirin of Akure kingdom, took the initiative to lead the women to the community, where they conducted a successful sensitization campaign.
During the campaign, cases of violence were reported, demonstrating the urgent need for intervention. The Eyelobirin assured the community members that they would follow up on these cases, ensuring that justice is served. Here, the Eyelobirin were not only receiving empowerment but also training to become advocates themselves. This trainings would equip them to train other women and be strong voices for women’s rights in their respective communities.
Chief Mrs. Kofoworola Oluwatuyi, representing the chiefs, pledged their unwavering support for the cause. They affirmed that the report of the meeting would be presented at the Oba’s council in their various communities. This would highlight the significance of this initiative at the highest level of traditional leadership.
Recognizing the importance of widespread awareness, Chief Mrs. Olayemi, Eyelobirin of Eleyowo, requested that similar meetings be held in each local government. This would ensure that the message of the VAPP LAW reaches every corner of the district. Thereby, empowering more women and fostering a culture of zero tolerance for violence.

To further reinforce this message, copies of the VAPP LAW were distributed to the attendees. In addition to this, posters containing important information were prominently displayed in conspicuous places within the community.
