On World Autism Awareness Day, the Kids & Teens Resource Centre took a significant step toward advancing inclusive care by equipping its staff and partners with critical skills to better support children on the autism spectrum, across communities and borders.
Through a powerful virtual training themed “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value,” participants from diverse locations came together with a shared mission: to strengthen early identification and intervention for children with autism, particularly in underserved and low-resource settings where support systems are often limited.
Facilitated by Dr. Sarah Ayeni, the session provided practical, actionable tools for recognising early developmental and behavioural signs of autism. The training emphasised a crucial truth: early identification can change the trajectory of a child’s life, opening doors to timely care, education, and inclusion.
Beyond technical knowledge, the session highlighted the human realities behind autism care. Families around the world continue to face stigma, lack of awareness, and insufficient access to specialised services. Addressing these challenges requires more than awareness, it demands coordinated action among healthcare providers, educators, policymakers, and community organisations.
Participants described the training as impactful and immediately applicable, strengthening their confidence and capacity to deliver meaningful support in their daily work. The interactive discussions also created space for shared learning, reinforcing a growing global network of advocates committed to inclusion.
Speaking after the session, Folashade Bamigboye reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to advancing child development and inclusive opportunities through sustained advocacy and capacity building.
However, critical gaps remain.
In his closing remarks, Martin-Mary Fálànà drew attention to the ongoing vulnerabilities faced by children with special needs, including safety and access to basic necessities in institutional settings. His call to action underscores a broader global reality, children with developmental challenges are still disproportionately exposed to risk and neglect.
This is where your support makes a difference.
By investing in training, early intervention, and community-based support systems, donors have the power to transform lives, ensuring that children with autism are not only seen, but supported, protected, and empowered to thrive.
Because no matter where a child is born, their life has equal value, and equal potential.
